ECAP Fire Prevention Films
The ECAP (Cantonal Establishment for Insurance and Prevention of Neuchâtel) collaborated with press illustrator and caricaturist Caroline Rutz. For its animated prevention campaigns, Imaginastudio was brought in to bring her drawings to life. To preserve the finesse and cartoon humor of her work, we chose traditional animation.
What is traditional animation? It’s a technique involving frame-by-frame drawing of every gesture and expression on paper (or tablet), then assembling these drawings into a smooth sequence. Unlike 3D or keyframe computer animation, this handcrafted approach faithfully preserves the illustrator’s original style and yields more spontaneous, lively movements.
The series features Myrmeca, ECAP’s ant mascot, across nine films. Each focuses on a common risk scenario: poorly handled fireworks, inattentiveness in the kitchen, dangers of overloaded power strips, and more. This humorous yet instructive mini-series aims to raise awareness and concretely illustrate safe behaviors to prevent everyday accidents.
