EPFL Unconscious Bias

As academic proofreaders, it’s important to recognize that the human mind can jump to conclusions without us even being fully aware. To ensure the integrity of one’s work and maintain a focus on research quality, it’s essential to question these unconscious biases.

This is why AOJM, UNIL, and EPFL joined forces to raise awareness among academic proofreaders through four concrete examples. These short sequences offer tools to both identify and avoid such biases.

Aesthetically, we chose to combine a wide range of sources — including photography — to ground the message in reality while leaving room for individual imagination. When needed, graphic and typographic elements were added to support the visuals and clarify more complex concepts.
